Primary Level Students can begin at the introductory Level as young as age three, and progress to Pre-Student level at the age of seven. Pre-Student is a vital age and developmental step to prepare, as the name suggests, for the Student Level. Our school takes the utmost care in developing young dancers. Taking a healthful and whole body approach to dance allows students to have bodies that will dance happily for years to come. For ballet in particular, this especially means allowing students to utilize turn out (the rotation of the leg within the hip socket) only when they have reached Ballet Level One. Students studying at lower levels will execute all steps from a parallel (feet facing forward) position. Fun & Games While proper dance training is important to developing our young dancers’ bodies, classes that have elements of variety mixed in with the usual classroom routine helps to keep students engaged, on their toes, and most importantly, having fun! Learning new dance steps and terminology is always more enjoyable if presented in a non-traditional format. In our dance classes, it’s as likely to see children playing games and telling stories, as it is to see them working at the barre, or dancing across the floor. Some days this means a game of Memory-with a dance twist, acting out a fairy tale, or even learning the different between doll and fairy makeup by receiving a mini-makeup session. Small extras such as these help to create a dance environment where students are really enjoying their learning experience.
Classes Lil' Princess Age 3A class specially designed for the developmental needs of the three year old child. Classes engage students' imagination and go from there to include art, music, dance and the language of ballet- French. Classes focus on age appropriate motor skills, and explore students creativity through mime, music, storytelling and art. Strong French language focus. Students must be three by the time they begin classes and be fully toilet trained. This age group will be doing their year end performance with costume in the studio, to help prepare them for performing in front of a larger audience the next year.Pre-Ballet I A/B (children 4 & 5 yrs)Students are introduced to rhythm exercises and gross motor exercises to develop musicality needed in later training as well as strength and flexibility of the body. These exercises are learned through repetition (the bread and butter of ballet) and games. French language focus. Pre-Ballet II A/B (Ages 6-7)*Students are being prepared for their later ballet classes. Students focus heavily on theatrical expression and mime. Focus is kept on previous gross motor skills while building finer motor skills which will be essential to success later in Ballet I. Coordination is worked on more thoroughly. Students are also introduced to work in parallel positions with the ballet barre. French language focus. * Audition is required for students who will be 7 as of September 1st. Visit the Audition page for more information about audition requirements.Performance Opportunities Select students may be chosen at different times during the year to be present/ perform at various venues throughout the Metro-Milwaukee area from local parades to dance workshops and private performances. These venues enhance students’ self-confidence and help to build their overall performance quality. ACB also presents a year end show in which students participate. Students in the Lil’ Princess class present an in-house performance for their families on their last day of class. Parents are allowed to record their child’s performance, provided they do not obstruct the view of others, and do not disturb the performance environment.
